SUMMARY OF PROCEEDINGS: SALEM
Business Leadership Series, a program for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) was organized by India SME Forum at 12th December 2014 at Hotel Park Plaza, Salem where over 95 SMEs attended the mentoring seminar. These SMEs were guided on, “Growing money on trees”: Finance for sustainable growth and “More For Less”: Customer market and Brands.
Ms. Sushma Morthania, Director General, India SME Forum addressed the SMEs by stating the need for passionate commitment in nurturing ones business as ones baby, was stressed upon. It was pointed that unlike planning a child’s future at every stage, entrepreneurs fail to follow the same policy as regards to their business.
Mr.Vinod Kumar, Country Manager & Senior Partner – India & Middle East -SDRC INDIA ADVISORS LLP, explained how loan sanctioning norms were different between non-banking finances companies and Public sector banks Mr. Krishnan Gopalakrishnan, Head- Retail & SME Credit, Reliance Commercial Finance, informed that the company had loaned a total amount of 20,000 crore and the key criteria was the intention to repay. Even without documents they were able to loan several projects.
Dr. Murugesaboopathi, Former Vice – Chancellor, Tamilnadu Agricultural University, explained about the vast untapped opportunities in the agro-business sector. Mr.Mariappan, President, Salem District Small and Tiny industries Association, presented the opportunities of growth in Salem.
The workshop also included some live success stories of Mr.Shabhari, Executive Director, Thangavelu Spinning Mills Ltd. that were shared with the participants.
The session concluded by one-to-one interactive session with the mentor (Mr.Vinod Kumar, Mr. Krishnan Gopalakrishnan), where assembled entrepreneurs participated enthusiastically to clear their doubts on various aspects of funding, branding and managing growth for profitability.
